As the Federal Trade Commission and Senator Hillary Clinton takes the gaming industry to task for violence and sexuality issues Rutgers University Research is using the Xbos to help stroke victims regain control. In fact the hand and brain coordination seems to do the trick very well and folks are regaining control nearly 3 times as fast as normal and in some cases 5 times as fast. Maybe the gaming industry is not as bad as we are told.
Of course this is a customized and slightly modified Xbox, but it is definitely an Xbox they are using. Virtual Reality and video games have been used by medical professionals and the military doctors before to help with such things as Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, so perhaps we should not be surprised by this recent innovation?
What so many people fail to realize is that entertainment, war research, space exploration and medical devices so often lead to revolutionary break thrus to cure the ills that plague mankind. On one hand we allow political posturing to attack technology and the blob of bureaucracy to slow it down and then on the other hand we applaud all its wonderful advances? We as a society and civilization need to get all back on the same page and stop attacking the best mankind can create. Consider all this in 2006.
